Overview

The Sharpull is a designer crossbreed that blends two distinct dogs: the Chinese Shar-Pei, an ancient wrinkled Chinese guardian, and the Pit Bull, a strong, affectionate American bull-and-terrier type. Breeders combine the two hoping to pair the Chinese Shar-Pei's best traits — distinctive wrinkles and a devoted, aloof dignity — with the Pit Bull's powerful athleticism and deep loyalty to family, all in one companion.

As a first-generation mix, the Sharpull is not a standardized breed, so puppies — even littermates — can vary in size, coat, and personality depending on which parent they take after. Most are large dogs, typically weighing around the range shown above. The best way to picture an individual Sharpull is to get to know both parent breeds.

Temperament

Sharpulls tend to be calm, loyal, and independent — and, from the Pit Bull side, loyal, confident, and people-loving. From its Chinese Shar-Pei parent it often inherits distinctive wrinkles and a devoted, aloof dignity, while the Pit Bull contributes powerful athleticism and deep loyalty to family. The blend usually makes an affectionate, family-oriented companion, but because temperament can lean either way, early socialization and consistent, positive handling are important to bring out the best of both parents.

Exercise

With active parent breeds behind it, the Sharpull needs plenty of exercise — an hour or more daily of walks, play, and stimulating activity. It thrives with active owners and space to move, and a bored, under-exercised dog will often invent its own mischief.

Grooming

The coat is low-maintenance — a weekly brush and occasional bath are usually enough. Stay consistent with nail trims, ear checks, and dental care, which matter for dogs of every coat type.

Training

The Sharpull responds best to patient, consistent, reward-based training and early socialization. Short, upbeat sessions work better than repetition or heavy correction. Establishing clear, kind boundaries early helps it grow into a well-adjusted companion.

Health

Mixed-breed dogs often enjoy some 'hybrid vigor,' but the Sharpull can still inherit any of the health conditions common to its parent breeds. Owners should be aware of skin and fold infections, eye conditions (entropion), Shar-Pei fever, hip dysplasia, skin allergies, and heart conditions. Buying from a breeder who health-tests both the Chinese Shar-Pei and the Pit Bull parents, keeping your dog at a healthy weight, and staying current with routine veterinary care are the best ways to support a long, healthy life.
